5308 installation

5308 Installation...

Hi,
I'm trying to install 5308 and the installation crashes on the second step. The screen with the "do not reboot your computer" message on it.
After about 5 minutes the screen goes black and I get a flashing cursor on the top right of the screen. I thought maybe it was doing something, so I left it there the whole night but it was at the same place when I got up the next morning.
I have a USB keyboard and just before it crashes the lights on it flash on and off. I thought it was maybe a problem with the USB drivers so I disabled USB in the BIOS and tried again.
I've tried reburning the DVD. I've tried reformating the 40 GB hard drive but nothing works.
Whaveter
I do I can't get it to install.
I'm beginning to think it might be a driver problem. Here's my setup: MSI K8N Neo4 AMD 3000+ 64bit 1gig RAM BFG 7800 GT OC

The install will blank the screen after the first reboot and then hang. It looks like a video or screen driver issue.
The
system is a Sony VAIO S270 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank!

Could well be it. Contact the manufacturer, or try on a different machine :o) It sounds from the error, that the hardware cannot be registered properly, therefore not booting up Windows. For Windows to boot, you need certain things - input devices (keyboard, sometimes mouse), a graphics card as well as the obvious things, processor, RAM, you know what I mean :o)

woot! a partial fix.
ok, so i knew it was barfing on the graphics driver. i grabbed the pci device id from the setupact.log (in this case: 4E50) and searched throgh the \Windows\inf folder for the coresponding entry. I then moved the two ATI inf files that would match that pci device id to another folder and restarted the installation. bingo. no problems :)
